Biography
I grew up in a small town in the American South, where I read many, many books, published my own newspaper and dreamed of escaping to New York. After journalism school, I jumped on a plane to said city - where my joie de vivre was more appreciated - and never looked back.
A chance encounter led to a job as a United Nations correspondent and suddenly, I was jetting off to exotic destinations, while scrambling to understand the nuances of Middle East politics.
After many years of traveling the Middle East, Europe and the US as a journalist and writer, I spent ten years living la vie Parisienne, where I started my blog Paris Parfait. I now live in Amsterdam, continuing my work as a freelance writer and documentary photographer.
When not plotting expeditions abroad, you'll find me wandering with my cameras, writing my blog or working on a book project. I am passionate about politics and human rights and believe in getting involved to effect positive change and justice.
My photographs appear in the books The Naked Eye by Charles Saatchi; The Secret Life of Color by Joann Eckstut and Arielle Eckstut; France in Ruins: Buildings in Decay by Simon O'Corra and in the Blue Guides book "Art/ shop /eat Paris." My photos also appear in FRAME magazine, Amsterdam; The Guardian, London; The English Home and Heart Home magazine, London; Romantic Homes and Somerset Studio in the U.S. and on the cover of It's for Your Benefit magazine in Alberta, Canada.
My images are in the Winter 2010 issue of Proyecto Bamboo in Buenos Aires. Further, my photos are featured in UNICEF's Photo Pledge for Children's Rights Campaign, a Safe World for Women campaignand the Love Paris campaign. My work appears in Create Mixed Media, Apartment Therapy New York, The Paris Blog, Chez les filles, Quill and Parchment, Where Women Create, Houzz, Remodelista, Sparkle.com and numerous online publications. My photographs have been featured in several theatre productions and used in programs for chamber music festivals and on an album cover.
I am a member of the National Press Photographers Association, the London Photographic Association, Women in Photography, Documentary Photography and Photography Industry Professionals. My photographs are taken with a Leica M9, a Leica M3, a Sony DSLR-A900, A99 or A55 and an array of Carl Zeiss lenses.
My weblog Paris Parfait is featured in "Blogs We Love" in Romantic Homes magazine, April 2010. Paris Parfait also has been featured in The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Oregonian, The Albuquerque Journal, Crooks and Liars political blog, 52 Projects, CNN.com, Univision.com, Redroom.com, Open Salon, Topix and Wikio, as well as numerous other websites. Paris Parfait was included in the Women, Power and Politics online exhibition at the International Museum of Women in San Francisco.
Paris Parfait was named Best Paris Blog 2011 in the Tripbase Travel Blog Awards. In 2009, Paris Parfait was named in Newsweek Budget Travel magazine's Top Ten Paris Expat Blogs. In 2008, Paris Parfait was named one of Blog.com's Ten Best Blogs for Francophiles. In 2007, Paris Parfait was a Share the Love Blog Awards winner and was nominated as Best Political Blog in the 2008 Blogger's Choice Awards. In 2008, Paris Parfait was the focus of study in two courses at universities in Georgia and Arizona.
