Feeling blue about the nasty antics of the American presidential campaign? Unless you're in Barcelona, Spain, you won't be able to take advantage of special "happy pills" (above and below). But you can go to Bob Geiger's website for hard-hitting political cartoons.
On a more serious note, David Sirota at Truthdig writes about McCain banking on a confederacy of dunces, with his ridiculous talk of socialism. And a group of communication scholars has called on John McCain to stop his negative campaigning. “The purposeful dissemination of messages that a communicator knows to be false and inflammatory is unethical. It is that simple,” the statement says. Think the McCain camp will pay any attention? That's about as likely as Palin saying she's not wearing the $150,000 wardrobe paid for by the Republican National Committee. Oh wait, she already said that! Even though her boss defended the purchases, saying "she needed clothes."
Well the important thing to remember is it's not what someone else pays for us to wear, it's what's inside that counts. And Palin's to-the-right-of-Cheney political philosophy is much scarier than her wardrobes, both designer and Wal-Mart. Some racist supporters who attend McCain-Palin rallies are pretty scary too.
And Palin hasn't a clue about the importance of fruit fly research. But Biochemicalsoul sets her straight. Richard Wolffe of Newsweek chimes in, "This is the most mindless, ignorant, uninformed comment that we have seen from Governor Palin so far and there's been a lot of competition for that prize."

I just read the endorsement that Colette mentioned, of Obama for the Anchorage Daily News. They completely ignored the issues with Palin. I'm glad to see the endorsement but they were playing it very safe by not citing Palin as a reason to not endorse the McCain ticket. I guess the editors will still get to keep their jobs when Palin gets home.

3 a.m. Toronto time.
I just read that the ANCHORAGE Daily News has endorsed Obama. Go Alaska! They are steering clear of Palin for obvious reasons and blaming it on McCain.
"On the most important issue of the day, Sen. Obama is a clear choice." Anchorage Daily News.

I just spent a happy, albeit upsetting half hour on your blog doing catch up and checking out all the interesting links you have found for us on election news. god i will be glad when the election is complete but i sure do intend to keep these topics in the forefront of my mind when all the dust settles. so much has been revealed about how close we are to a disastrous repeat of the past 8 years...times 10! the bush administration pave/slicked the way for a pair like Palin in her deadly ignorance and McCain's schoolboy tantrums turned rage to be nominated. i assume this will be the shame of the century for the republicans... i'm including the entire past 8 years in my estimation. it is very hard for me to believe...even though i see it played out on video and in the paper everyday....that we as a nation can be so filled with hate and ignorance. we seem to learn nothing from history. or at least that is what it looks/sounds like in all those communities that are supporting the republican party right now. i better shut up or i will raise my own blood pressure and cry in frustration.
XO
you offer the most interesting, varied and top notch news tara dear!!

McCain negativity: The non-Gift that keeps on giving.
My sister reports that Sarah Palin made her "policy" speech, in which she promised to allocate funds for special needs children, then made her customary gaffe: She ridiculed a study on fruitflies being done in South Carolina, not knowing that the study is linked to autism research. Her Boss confused Down syndrome with autism -- now this. Beyond the Palin?

With his bulging eyes on debate night, I'm thinking McCain is in need of an enema. Or, as one blogger put it, a laxative in his pudding. Sarah Palin needs to go back to school and practice her English. Polish it a bit. If I hear anyone else utter the words "you betcha" I may take their head off. And I have poison ivy, so that's not a stretch at the moment.
