Rain and wind kept many racegoers from wearing unusual hats at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe festivities Sunday at Hippodrome de Longchamp, Paris.
I'm not sure why these two mademoiselles (at left) were wearing hats with evening gowns - or why they were wearing evening gowns to the Arc, particularly in cool, rainy weather.
Notice the guys in the background, drinking and ignoring the girls. "Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes." - Henry David Thoreau.
"Hope is the thing with feathers..." - Emily Dickinson.
Black and white and a glass of champagne.
Fur-trimmed.
A profusion of flowers and feathers.
The hat tent at Longchamp, featuring hats for sale.
The hat I bought in Antwerp, created by a Dutch designer. At right is the way I started out wearing it. The photo at left is an alternative look. By the time the Arc with its heavy winds were over, the hat had turned around like this!
My friend Di at Designers Block UK very kindly has posted a little piece here about the hat.
More photos from the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Wednesday.
Scroll down the page for another post today.

It is absolutely perfect on you and I love the photograph. I'm so glad we found that cute little shop and it will be good to properly explore the quietly stunning fashion streets here in Antwerpen one day soon.

Just thought I'd check in with my favorite political correspondent as I wait for the next debate to start in 2 minutes.
I was told by a very cosmic masseuse that I used to have a hat shop in Paris in a past life. Boy, did I ever like these photos!
Good luck U.S. of A

Oh, ooh-la-la, how I love the hats! Yours is very chic either way it sits on your head! How fun to get to attend an event like that. I envy you being around women who like style. My oldest son (26) said something so funny a few years ago that I remembered as I scrolled through the hat-pics: "Think about it - we (the U.S.) give the world Mickey D's and the French give the world ... lingerie!" Not the same thing, I know, but... This post was the perfect counterpoint to Olbermann! Thanks.

Oooooh, your photos of these amazing hats are fabulous! I just want to run to the nearest hat store and try some on :) Thanks so much for posting these photos! I wish Canadians would wear hats more often so that I could get a little collection going allong with my shoes....

Thought I am not a fan of horse-racing, I do love all the over the top hats!!!!!
And yours looks just stunning...I love the color!!!!! I have been told I have a "hat-head", but I don't know if I could get away with any of those :)

Okay, now you've done it. I thought seeing that Keith Olbermann video here made my day, but now I think it's the hats that have done it.
I love your hat! And how versatile it is. It looks fabulous either way. Your haircut is adorable and well-suited to you! Thanks for the fun photos. I love how women dress for each other.
